The History of Ayurveda
Ayurveda is a 5,000 year old medical science originating in India. Its focus is on healing and maintaining the quality of life. Ayurveda combines science, psychology, philosophy, and spirituality viewing all individuals as a microcosm of the universe. According to Ayurveda, the most important thing is finding a mind, body balance and connection. Ayurveda uses things such as yoga, meditation, lifestyle, diet, and herbs tailored to each individual's Doshic constitution. The goal of Ayurveda is to prevent illness, promote longevity, and restore harmony within the body. Ayurveda views each individual as unique and treatments are personalized as such.
WHAT ARE THE DOSHAS?
The Doshas represent unique combinations of the elements air, fire, water, and earth, and govern various physiological and psychological functions in the body. Understanding the Doshas helps us to tailor our lifestyle, diet, and self care practices to maintain more balance and well-being in our lives.
Vata:
Elements: Air and Space
Associated with movement, change, and creativity
Lively, imaginative, quick thinking
Irregular digestion and sleep patterns
Slender build, dry skin, cold hands and feet, fluctuations in weight and energy levels
Emotional traits:
Out of balance- prone to anxiety, worry, and nervousness
In balance- adaptable, enthusiastic, and creative
Pitta
Elements: Fire and Water
Governs metabolism, digestion, and transformation
Ambitious, organized, and passionate
Strong digestion and intellect
Medium build, warm body, strong appetite, sensitive skin prone to redness and inflammation
Emotional traits:
Out of balance- prone to anger and irritability
In balance- courageous, goal oriented, and focused
Kapha
Elements: Earth and Water
Stability, structure, and lubrication to the body
Calm, nurturing, and grounded
Strong endurance and steady temperament
Sturdy build, soft, smooth skin, strong immunity- sometimes tendency to gain weight and experience sluggish digestion
Emotional traits:
Out of balance- prone to lethargy, weight gain, attachment, and complacency
In balance- loving, compassionate, and patient
WHAT ARE THE KOSHAS?
The 5 layers or sheaths of consciousness, ranging from the most low vibratory material level to the highest vibratory or most spiritual state. The energies are constantly shifting from subtle to material so the koshas can be viewed as always operating on a micro and macrocosmic level.
Annamaya Kosha
The physical body- the kosha we are most aware of. This kosha is linked to our sense of survival, ego, and general sensing of the world. Proper fuel (food) is the chief medicine for this kosha.
Pranamaya Kosha
The energetic body and breath. Pranais life force energy or “chi” that runs through us. This is the layer beyond the physical plane. This sheath supports mental and psychic activity and personal consciousness.
Manamaya Kosha
This kosha is one of 2 layers of the mind. It is considered the “lower mind”. The manamaya kosha is linked to the left side of the brain and the sympathetic nervous system. This is the reactive part of our mind and is where “fight or flight” comes from. It is the part of our mind that recognizes our self as a separate and unique being that needs to care for itself. This is where our mind chatter comes from.
Vijnanamaya Kosha
This is considered the “higher mind”. This is the part of the mind that with practice can remain aware of thoughts without getting caught up in them. When we are meditating we are trying to activate this part of the mind. We see ourselves as not separate but connected to the entire universe and everything in it. “Instead of viewing oneself as a single drop in the ocean, envision oneself as the entire ocean in one drop”. It’s the part of the brain that is creative and all loving. In this sheath we make the leap from ego thinking (being stuck in time and space) to pure consciousness.
Anandamaya Kosha
This layer is the seat of bliss, unity, and the soul. This is where all of the layers merge and become one and we also become one with cosmic consciousness. When you do the work of yoga for many many years you can reach the seed of all existence, your soul, your highest self, the pure light that exists inside of you and everywhere else. Throughout life we get tiny glimpses of our Self although to experience it indefinitely takes centuries of hard work. The work is to unveil what is standing in the way of seeing ourselves as we are. Pure, egoless, light. The journey is a deep inward journey that then allows us to live in the bliss that we have always been.

Ayurveda is a deep, beautiful, wisdom-based practice that can help you lead a more balanced, empowered, healthy and long life. While we all have this wisdom inside of us, we may have forgotten it along the way through the stressors of modern day life – between work, driving, personal commitments, relationships, social media, and everything going on in the world, we can become disconnected from our natural rhythms & needs. Ayurveda provides incredible direction on how to return to your natural state based on your own Doshic constitution. Our program together will begin with an in-depth exploration of your current health concerns, imbalances and establishing the long term vision for your health. I will then lead you through your custom treatment program, which will include a lifestyle, diet, and herbal protocol, as well as energy healing and holistic modalities such as yoga, meditation, and pranayama. Ultimately, you will walk away with many new tools to support you in becoming your own healer 🤍

Program length: 6 weeks
Personalized consultation based on Ayurveda. We will assess your Doshic constitution and provide guidance on lifestyle, diet, and herbal remedies. We will first meet for a 90-120 minute consultation where we will dive deep into things such as your health history, current health state, lifestyle, schedule, habits, and any concerns you may have. We will follow this with a 45 minute return client session where I will go over a treatment plan for you. After this we will meet for 1 more follow up session to check in and see how the protocol is working for you, address any concerns, and make any necessary changes to the protocol.

3 MONTHS

Program length: 3 months
Includes a personalized consultation based on Ayurveda. We will assess your Doshic constitution and provide guidance on lifestyle, diet, and herbal remedies. We will first meet for a 90-120 minute consultation where we will dive deep into things such as your health history, current health state, lifestyle, schedule, habits, and any concerns you may have. We will follow this with a 45 minute return client session where I will go over a custom treatment plan for you and discus findings from out initial consult. After this we will meet for 2 more follow up sessions to check in and see how the protocol is working for you, address any concerns, and make any necessary changes to the protocol, and I will also lead you through an energy healing. In addition you will have the option to choose 1 hour long treatment per month. You will be able to choose from Abhyanga (ayurvedic massage), shirodhara, sound healing, and private yoga and meditation. Lastly, you will have access to any of my group yoga classes throughout our time together.
